We are so thankful for the recent rainfall after the previous weeks of smoking hot weather. Still, we are heading into our hottest month and we wanted to test your water smarts. The BC Alamanc predicts a long hot August and potentially a drier/warmer than average Fall as well, lets be ready for it!
Don't water in the heat of the day
Don't plant hedges, large trees/shrubs until the Fall
Don't use fertilizers
Don't water or cut your lawn and don't worry about it either, it's not dead it's dormant - brown is the new green!
Do know the restrictions
Do consider water-wise plants that don't require a lot of watering
Do save all grey water in the home
Do consider investing in an irrigation system
Do move plant pots to the shade
Do apply a 2" top dress of composted bark mulch to help retain moisture
Do invest in a rainbarrell, we all know the rain will eventually come back!
