Well hello! Embarrassingly it has been over a month since I last posted. But a sign of de-wiring and enjoying the loveliness that is summer, I guess.
Our yard sale last month was a huge success. If you didn't already see some of the goods for sale on instagram here's what you missed. We wanted to send along a huge thanks to all of you who generously donated goods to our sale. We really appreciated all the items that were dropped off/picked up. Our trusty 1969 ford pick-up decided to go to sleep on the day the guys were doing the pick ups, but my dad and his ghetto sedan came to the rescue, along with so many of you who kindly trekked over to the studio to drop off your goods in person.
WIth your help, we were able to raise just over $600.00. And we are so excited that we are coming close to almost $1000.00 raised already this year for the Schoolyard Project. We know even this amount (although not huge) will really help the project out with items like staffing and or supplies needed to run programs. Thanks again for all your help in making what we do important and inspiring!
On that note there is still over a month left to hit up a yard sale or two yourselves. Here is a shot of a seller down in seattle that was very festive. The best part was that he tracked all his sold items on his trusty old typewriter! Love it
Seattle is a great place to yard sale, or go sailin as my aunt calls it. I head down there every year for a weekend dedicated to 'sailin' with my aunt and cousin- who are die hards to say the least. Just to give you a snippet of their methods:
-they go out for a few hours almost every weekend in search for fun goods.
-they have code words for bad sales "SPS" stupid price sale, ie: don't bother locking the car we are outta here!
-my aunt has specific purse on hand by the door at all times dedicated solely to yard sailin. It is packed with the following: calculator, lots of change, tape measure, wishlists, magnifying glass, lip gloss, sunscreen, a granola bar, reusable bags and hand sani. Now that's planning!
-there is a method: do a quick overall walk through, and then circle again in more detail. This way you dont miss out on the gold mine!
-always, always pack lots of water and a pbj sandwich.
-business private estate sales are a rip off and not worth the stop.
-bad signage gets egged and booed from the car. It is beyond infuriating and talked about for hours in the car ride!
-the whole family gets together at the end of the day and camps out with chairs in the front yard doing a show and tell of their finds... along with a cold glass of wine in hand.
Next week I will share with you some of the great items I have found yard sailin over the last few years. Until then- enjoy this sunshine folks.
